Luciana Hermida
Mixed media artist
I am, an Artist and Graphic Designer from Buenos Aires, Argentina, now based in Chester, England. I have only recently started selling my art and turning it from a hobby into a career. Last year my art was featured on the BBC1 show ‘Home is Where the Art Is’ and I was interviewed on Maeve Doyle’s show on Soho radio, London.
Since then business has been great, designing specialist one off commissions creating my clients ‘Dreamworlds’ and my Space Dive Limited Edition Collection has only a few pieces left. My art is currently displayed in Chester Arts Centre, England and more recently I gained interest from a well-established gallery, Braque, in Buenos Aires where my work is also on display.

My Background
Before starting my design degree I attended an arts school in the outskirts of Buenos Aires where I learnt not only to paint and draw, but pottery, ceramics, sculptures as well as typography and photography. This was a great base for my future design studies and my parallel career as a visual artist. I acquired invaluable knowledge through these disciplines: proportion, perspective, structure, use of colour, textures...but the most important lesson during this part of my life was that to be an artist you need to be willing to be versatile and open minded.
When I started learning I didn’t restrict myself to any medium and I still don’t, as I am always learning something new and I enjoy experimenting with different kind of elements and materials.
After finishing my degree in Graphic Design with 1st Class honours at University of Belgrano, Buenos Aires, I started working as a freelance Graphic Designer, mainly in corporate identity and branding, in both London and Liverpool.
My Approach to Art
I use many different techniques and take different paths to develop a piece of art. I rely a lot on photography as well as using traditional techniques of hand drawing, painting with acrylics, these maybe added digitally or physically onto the piece. I create digital illustrations and add various materials and text to embellish the final piece. I am not precious about one technique or another, as I think a piece of art brings itself together through the open combination of elements.
Every digital collage is a collection of thoughts on particular subjects as well as being in their majority sea - and dream - inspired.
I combine objects in certain ways to get across different meanings. I embrace the monstrous aspect of deep sea creatures and the timeless beauty of the female figure.
